Description
Fairfax City, Virginia, an independent city incorporated
in 1961. As an independent city, it is not part of Fairfax County, although it is surrounded
by the county and in fact the county's courthouse, jail, and main library
are located within the city limits.
The flag is a strange shade of pale grayish blue which I may not quite have
captured, with the city seal on the center. The seal is a rounded triangle
with the coat of arms on the center, a variation on the Fairfax family arms
used as the county coat of arms. The city arms are barry argent and gules a lion
rampant within a bordure embattled azure. The supporters are a Confederate
and a Continental officer.
Fairfax City is essentially a bedroom community for Washington as well an
attractive restaurant and shopping center. It is also densely populated
with lawyers serving what I understand is the state's busiest court system.
